Brittney Griner is a WNBA superstar playing for the Phoenix Mercury. In 2022 she was arrested in Russia for the possession of a cannabis vape cartridge.

Griner was released in a prisoner exchange program between the USA and Russia after being imprisoned for 10 months. Throughout her imprisonment and since returning home, she has been subject to increased media attention. Now Griner is capitalizing on all that attention. Griner has just signed a deal with ESPN, Disney and ABC for multiple projects. That includes a documentary, exclusive interviews and possibly additional content in the future.

Brittney Griner, since returning from her imprisonment has focused on giving back to the public. She has always felt grateful for what her country has done for her. Her motive for showcasing her journey from arrest to release is to empower others.

Her return to the WNBA was a disappointment, with her Phoenix Mercury finishing 9-31 in the standings. Despite her 17.5 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists, the Mercury did not do enough to get into their 11th straight playoffs.

How are fans taking this apparent capitalization

People around the world were questioning the powers of the USA when they had to give up international arms dealer Viktor Bout, known as the “Merchant of Death.” Fans feel that Griner was imprisoned for a crime. Exchanging her for an international criminal was absurd.
