Hall of Famer Charles Barkley is one of NBA’s most endearing players throughout the course of his illustrious career. Barkley was well recognized for his demeanor off the court, it wasn’t just on the court. He adapted to life beyond basketball following a remarkable playing career. This required Barkley to take his skills to the television studio, where he established himself as a regular on TNT’s basketball program “Inside the NBA.”
He has been a part of TNT since 2000. Since then, he has grown more well-known every year as an objective game analyst. Although not everyone agrees with Barkley’s viewpoint, this is also one of the reasons he has acquired respect in the basketball community. The legend recently made an appearance on a recent episode of the basketball talk show “All the Smoke.”
Barkley expressed his gratitude for being accepted into the TNT family. He also mentioned that he plans to stop reporting about basketball once his current contract expires. Barkley jokingly remarked that he doesn’t want to be working in this capacity at the age of 70. He said, “I said well I really want to wind down they’re like well we need you to stay at least x amount of years three or four or five somewhere in there but we just want to make sure if you still want to keep working we want to sign for 10 years”
Speaking on the LIV golf contract, Barkley said, “I had no problem with Liv. We’re not the moral police, the United States does business with China, the NBA does business with China, Saudi Arabia, and everything like that. don’t fall for the selective outrage. if the people actually knew where all their money came from nobody would be working right that’s facts.”
Charles Barkley on his relationship with Michael Jordan
In the same episode, Barkley became honest about his true feelings for Michael Jordan. He said, “He was my best friend at the time and I love the guy and I miss the guy. But you know, I got to do my job. First of all, I don’t think it’s fair for me to critique other GM’s and coaches and have a double standard. … I think I’m fair to everybody. What I said about Michael, I said, I don’t know if he’s ever going to be successful because of the people around him. I think he hires too many of his friends. Because your friends don’t ever tell you ‘no’.”
He further added. “He went ballistic, and he called me and that’s the last thing I heard, ‘Motherf**ker, f**k you. You’re supposed to be my boy.’ And I said, ‘Man, I gotta do my job.’ And were haven’t spoken since that night.”
Even though Chuck was correct in his assessment, their relationship suffered as a result. Since the former Phoenix Suns forward mentioned the six-time champion’s abilities as a franchise owner, the two have not communicated. It seems like it might take some time for Barkley and Jordan to resolve their problems.
