“Only if LA Lakers knew the right way to use him” German star Dennis Schroder dropped an all-time high in FIBA European Qualifiers vs Poland

Los Angeles Lakers might be kicking themselves for letting German International Dennis Schroder go after watching his performance for his national side against Poland.

After finishing up with the anticipated draft night last month, NBA Free Agency has been going on for a while. The teams are looking for quality players available relatively cheaper than a trade. While US Stars are in the nation only, many international NBA players are busy representing their countries in the FIBA World Cup qualifiers. Fans are keeping tabs on their favorite NBA stars as Luka Doncic and Goran Dragic have been making waves for Slovenia. Facundo Campazzo has been leading Argentina. But surprisingly it’s Dennis Schroder for Germany making huge productions on international duty.

Dennis had a monster game against Poland to help his country to a 93-83 win in a closely fought contest. He dropped an all-time European Qualifiers high with 38 points in the game, making the headlines in the media. The second-best performance of the tournament also came on Sunday, as Luka Doncic had a near 30-point triple-double beating Sweden.

Did Los Angeles Lakers lose a gem in Dennis Schroder?

Dennis Schroder was drafted in 2013 by the Atlanta Hawks. But after some role play – he was moved to Oklahoma City Thunders to partner Russell Westbrook in the quest for the Championship. Lakers were impressed by the star, and they move for the star for 1 season. The former Lakers point guard had a very rough 2021-22 season at Hollywood. He averaged moderate 15 points, 4 rebounds, and 6 assists, clocking a career-most 32 minutes in-game.

Schroder has a pretty good mid-range game, and he is very efficient from the free-throw line as well. Maybe Frank Vogel could have used formal 6th man runners-up differently than a secondary ball-handler in the team, Lakers might have had different results altogether.

After missing out on a massive extension for the LA Lakers, Schroder had to sign a one-year deal with the young Boston Celtics side. After an underwhelming performance at Boston, he was traded to the Houston Rockets where he saw out the season on the young and tanking roster.

28-years old Schroder is still a free agent but might get in touch with some franchises after playing for Germany in the WC qualifiers. As of now, the guard has not been linked with any major move to any team and will be expected to sign on the veteran minimum for his next team. This is a far cry from the $80 million he rejected from the Lakers.

Lakers did try to fill in the guard position with the massive trade for Russell Westbrook, which failed miserably. They would have kept Schroder, and might not go all in for Westbrook, had it been all sorted well in the first place.

As for Dennis Schroder, his performances for Germany may help stir more interest but is unlikely to get him a bigger contract on any contending team. But maybe he might need to get flexible on some commercials.
