Ja Morant earned what he truly deserves this season after working tirelessly to bring his team into the top five in the entire league. The Memphis Grizzlies were completely looked over until they broke through as a team and cracked the second-best record in the entire league. These efforts earned Morant the Most Improved Player of the Year award yesterday.

Ja Morant went from averaging 19 points per game last season to an incredible 27 points this year leading his team into the playoff race. However, his winning the award over players like Dejounte Murray and Darrius Garland left a slight taste of confusion in the league. Despite all the doubters out there, this moment is one to be celebrated regardless as Morant became the first-ever Grizzlies player to win the award.

The point guard expressed his gratitude via Twitter saying, “I believe in everyday life you want to be better at your profession & as a person all the time. It becomes a constant grind, so to receive this award is a true testament for the work I put into my craft on a daily basis and for that, I’m truly grateful. MIP.”

The Grizzlies had an exceptional run while Ja Morant was out for injury reasons. One of the biggest reasons for their success was none other than Desmond Bane who has been marvelous and an underrated scorer on the team. As a gesture of appreciation, Morant gifted his award to Bane at his house.

“What the hell is this doing here, bro?” said Bane reacting to the surprise. The player averaged 18.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game this season. The player showed a 9-point difference in his contribution to the team’s scoring power. The Grizzlies are currently facing the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the playoffs and are up 3-2 in the series. Both teams will meet on Thursday at the Target Center for Game 6.
