LeBron James is all over the NBA headlines like every other day in the league. But this time the reason is a bit unique as he was ranked 6th by ESPN in their rankings for the best players for the coming 2022-23 season. This has really divided the internet as many are riding with the list and accepting it all. While others believe LeBron James got robbed and he deserves a spot in the Top 5 players where ESPN has Giannis Antetokounmpo, Nikola Jokic, Luka Doncic, Joel Embiid and Stephen Curry respectively.

This list didn’t really age well with NBA analyst Mike Greenberg. As he believes LeBron James is still that guy at age 37, a franchise would choose at any given time especially in the playoffs if they want to win a championship. And, he isn’t all wrong while saying that. As everyone around the league and in the basketball world knows how great LeBron James is and what he can do on the court while going against his rivals.

Even though last season LeBron James failed to lead the Los Angeles Lakers to even the play-in tournament. It wasn’t really his fault as he was helpless most of the times because of the not that great and injured supporting cast and veteran roster which was low on chemistry. As he tried his level best and averaged 30.3 points, 8.2 rebounds and 6.2 assists per game.

So Mike Greenberg and several others picking LeBron James over the Top-5 players for wanting to start an organization or winning a championship aren’t wrong. As King is one of the best active players who know how to get the job done. But Mike Greenberg didn’t sell any take and also mentioned how the Lakers aren’t the ones to win it all even though they have “The Chosen One” with them.

As talking about LeBron James and his greats Mike Greenberg took a shot at the Los Angeles Lakers and quoted: “I am not talking about who has the best chance of winning the championship this year. Because LeBron James is playing for a franchise which sold their souls for one title and they won it. And, his running mate Anthony Davis is never healthy. So I am not saying he has a better chance of winning this year’s championship than these five guys. But that’s not his fault. As you can put him in a team and in the playoffs I believe in the players gives you a better chance of winning every single game he plays.”

Mike Greenberg also mentioned how he understands the criteria the list is made from and also gave a reason on why he would put LeBron James in the Top-5 even though he’ll hit 38 soon. He mentioned how great care Bron takes of his body unlike other athletes in the past as he quoted: “He isn’t 37 in the way players were 37 in the previous generation…he’s right at the end but still in the window where he can be a dominant player.”

LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers can win the NBA title this coming season and they are already working for it to happen. The team is working on their defensive end which sold many games in the past season. As they signed Darvin Ham as their new head coach and brought in players like Patrick Beverley, Juan Toscano Anderson and Dennis Schroder. They also look to make more improvements in the future as Russell Westbrook’s future still remains uncertain.

But honestly, if the Big Three of LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook is able to find a rhythm and makes things work while being healthy. They can really carry the Lakers around and win it all but unfortunately, nothing like that happened last season. But still, we hope it works and the Lakers become great again.
