He has ice in his veins. Trae Young has done it once again with his masterful floater. The Atlanta Hawks are on their way for vengeance after being inches away from a title shot last season. This has been extremely competitive from the beginning and many teams have fought long and hard for their spot in the playoffs as did the Hawks.

Trae Young helped lead his team past the play-in tournament going 2-0 against Charlotte and Cleveland. He averaged 31 points during the tournament and finished number one in total points scored this season with 2,155 playing 28.4 minutes per game. The Miami Heat were able to snag two early wins against the Hawks with Jimmy Butler leading his team with a spectacular 45-point performance. Trae Young spoke to the media about the poor officiating that took place. Seemingly very disappointed he said, “Obviously, we felt we let one slip away, but if the refs are gonna let them be as physical as they are and not call fouls, I mean, it’s gonna be hard to really do anything.”

After the Game 2 upset, the Hawks bounced back in the following matchup defeating the Heat 111-110. Young hit a floater over Butler with a little under 10 seconds on the shot clock. After a very slow third quarter with only 16-points coming out of it, the game switched up completely with the Hawks outscoring the Heat 34-25. The All-Star point guard finished with 24 points, 8 assists, and 4 rebounds on 42.8% shooting. Atlanta was far more efficient from the field than their opponents in .513/.375/.810% shooting splits.

Butler had missed a jumper with 12 seconds left on the clock and the Hawks quickly grabbed the rebound. With under 10 seconds left the Hawks had Young in possession of the ball who has had incredible success in closing out games by the buzzer. The player later said, “I didn’t have any doubts. I was able to get to the basket and get my floater.”

Head Coach Nate McMillan would take us through his plans while the shot wired down to the final few seconds, he said, “No way I was calling a timeout there. We got the rebound down by one with the ball in Trae’s hands. That’s a great chance to get in transition.” The Hawks will have their shot-to-tie series at 2-2 on Sunday, at the State Farm Arena.
