Is Draymond Green a popular guy among the refs? No. Does Draymond Green continue doing stuff to hamper his reputation? A resounding Yes ! The vintage, ‘3rd-quarter Warriors’ stormed Dallas and poster dunked their way into a 109-100 victory in the American Airlines Centre in Dallas . Curry dropped 31 points while the Man of the Match, Andrew Wiggins, bagged 27 points as Golden State once again asserted their dominance over Dallas to take a commanding 3-0 series lead, in the Western Conference Finals.
Luka Doncic tried to carve path of hope for the Mavericks with 40 points, 11 rebounds and 3 assists but, fate did not favour him again. Despite the combined 46 points from Jalen Brunson and Spencer Dinwiddie, Dallas did not have enough in the tank to finish off the win to get back in this series. Reggie Bullock and Maxi Kleber, two downtown experts for Dallas, missed all 12 of their 3-pointers combined and were 0-15 overall, in what was a calamitic shooting display from Dallas.
Stephen Curry was once again the spearhead of the Warrior’s offense as he finished the game with 31 points, 11 assists and 5 rebounds on 10-of-20 shooting and 5-of-10 from beyond the arc. Wiggins produced a playoff career-high in scoring with 27 points, 11 rebounds and three assists while also throwing down a highlight-reel poster dunk on Luka Doncic. Klay Thompson bagged 19 points as Jordan Poole and Draymond Green scored 10 points apiece.
“It helped me play a lot better” – Draymond Green
The questionable refereeing in these playoff games, seems hilarious at times with Draymond Green being the favorite victim of the referees. With the Mavs up 37-31, Steph Curry tossed a pass back to Green, who was near midcourt. Before Green catches the ball, he appears to set his feet on the Warriors’ side of the floor. The play was deemed an over-and-back violation by match-official. After referee Marc Davis assessed him a backcourt violation during the second quarter, Draymond Green couldn’t believe it and argued about it with the ref.
It was a controversial call, Green let Davis and the crowd at American Airlines Center, know what he thought about it as he argued with Davis well after the whistle was blown. Moments later, Davis hit Green with a technical foul for his defiance and dissent. During the Warriors timeout, the outspoken Warriors veteran had more words for the referee.
Another dispute was upon us as Andrew Wiggins just slammed the dunk of his career, putting Luka Doncic on a poster during the 4th quarter of Game 3. Wiggins and the Warriors were able to celebrate only momentarily, as official Marc Davis ran over to rule the play an offensive foul on Wiggins. After being challenged by Steve Kerr, the call was overturned, and the poster stood. Green, with already a technical foul to his name by Davis earlier in the game, couldn’t keep himself from saying :
When he was asked about his personal and technical fouls post game, Draymond still had a bit left in his teeth, he said –
“I got uh really upset, it clearly wasn’t a back court violation and then I got a tech for saying that’s whack, so yeah I was pissed off. But Thanks, it helped me play a lot better, appreciate it”
After sticking up for himself following his own questionable foul, it’s clear Green jumped at the opportunity to defend Wiggins’ incredible play that was almost overshadowed by another disputable call. In addition to the technical, Green had two personal fouls through two quarters on Sunday, and the Warriors were sanctioned with 12 fouls compared to Dallas’ tally of 8. After Game 2 of the Warriors-Mavs series on Friday, coach Steve Kerr said that Draymond Green played with excessive emotion.
Golden State have slammed their foot down and have been dominant through this entire series, they are now just one win away from reaching their sixth NBA Finals in eight years. There’s still work to be done here, Doncic and the rest of the Mavericks squad will surely do everything in their power to try and extend this series and avoid a sweep. Can The Mavericks spring a historic comeback from 3-0 down against the mighty Warriors, the chances are bleak. Will Draymond Green again cuss at referees in Game 4, absolutely yes.
