Some regard WNBA star Brittney Griner as the Tom Brady of her own league. Having to be detained in Russia for multiple months now, there seems to be tension rising for the personnel’s friends and family minute by minute, about her well-being. However, her detention in Russia has got a major update.
As per a report from the Associated Press via ESPN, Brittney Griner’s detention in Russia as she awaits her long-lasting trail as be extended by as many as 30 days, starting May 19. Which could keep one of the leading American female athlete away from the home borders for long.
When will Brittney Griner return?
“The lawyer for WNBA star Brittney Griner said Friday her pretrial detention in Russia has been extended by one month.
Griner’s lawyer, Alexander Boikov, told The Associated Press he believed the relatively short extension of the detention indicated the case would come to trial soon.”
To those who are not aware Brittney Griner’s detention was previously extended for two months by a court decision. But with the looming fears of the trail getting postponed by at least a year or maybe even worse, 18 months before she can even make a case for herself to return back home. Griner was initially detained at the Moscow airport in mid-February over possession of cartridges in her luggage containing oil derived from cannabis, which constitutes up to 10 years in prison in Russia.
Given that this is only an update, basketball fans all over the world want Griner to return back home and probably on the basketball court. Moreover, being away from family and friends in a foreign land, whose legal terms with United States of America can get worse any minute, heart goes out to the same player. Hopefully she comes back sooner rather than later.
That being said, with all eyes on the Men’s NBA semi-final series underway, people do not to take up Griner’s matter much more seriously. Especially, with the delay in her trail happening after ever 10-day gap.
