“Not just think about trading LeBron but trade Anthony Davis, too” Brian Windhorst believes LA Lakers should go all out and start rebuilding

Los Angeles Lakers

Brian Windhorst including everyone else in the world knows that the Los Angeles Lakers are in the mud right now, and in what is considered to be a near impossible situation, even if they somehow manage to sneak into the playoffs, they have to get through them in order to even remain in contention for the Championship, which is nothing less than a dream at this point in time. Despite the Lakers having the biggest names in the league on their team, they have struggled, and will continue to struggle until they make certain radical changes which, to say the least, will shake up the world, as these changes would be massive.

ESPN’s Brian Windhorst on “The Hoop Collective” along with Tim MacMahon and Tim Bontemps discussed the extent to which Lakers would have to go to in order to turn the tides around for themselves in order to get their hands at the championship, which at this point is nothing less than a farfetched dream. Despite LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook being a part of the team, the Lakers have struggled throughout this season and the solution to get out of this problem according to Brian Windhorst is nothing less than a massive risk.

LeBron James and Anthony Davis

Brian Windhorst went on to give his thoughts regarding where the Lakers are going wrong, and gave us an idea of what he expects the team to do in order to get themselves out of the trouble they have put themselves in, by making some radical changes. Let us now take a deeper dive into this discussion and take a closer look at what Brian Windhorst had to say regarding the Lakers and their future in the league.

What Brian said is nothing less than a humongous statement and weird advice according to any Lakers fan, but according to the man himself, it is what it is, and it is what the Lakers will require in order to even remain the kind of team that they were, which has a lot of respect and dignity associated with its name.

The Lakers who have names like LeBron James, Russell Westbrook and Anthony Davis along with names like Dwight Howard, Carmelo Anthony and Malik Monk etc. have done nothing but struggled throughout the season as the players have struggled to find form and have had inconsistent performances all around the year. Their main focus, a part of the Lakers’ Big 3, Russell Westbrook who was expected to be a valuable addition to the Lakers’ squad also has done nothing but shot bricks and has been at the center of criticism and controversy in the entire league.

Even the likes of LeBron James and Anthony Davis who are expected to perform for the team all the time haven’t been able to do so and the dependence of an entire team on just one or two players is definitely not the strategy that will ever work out for the Lakers. In a team sport that has 5 players, it seems as if the Lakers play with only one or two, that is, LeBron James and Anthony Davis, despite of which, Brian Windhorst gave such radical statements which rattled the NBA World.

Brian suggested that the Lakers need to start afresh and need to get rid of the biggest names in the league if they want to move ahead, and these are the names which give hope to the Lakers’ fans in order to take the team forward. Brian said, “Regardless of what happens in this Lakers season, when Anthony Davis comes back, when they sneak into the playoffs proper, they have to go in through the play-in. Whether we get a Clippers-Lakers play-in game, which would be remarkable, and all that kind of stuff.”

Following it up with, “When the season is over, in my opinion, this is where we are. The Lakers are going to have two choices. Choice 1 is to go all in. Trade Westbrook, put the picks on the table – their 2027 and 2029 – one or both. Have LeBron under contract for one more year, hope that he extends. Do everything you possibly can to upgrade”.

Then Windhorst went on to drop the massive bombs and said, “Or I think they have to go all out, not just think about trading LeBron but trade Anthony Davis, too, and Westbrook.” Which is something no one expected from him or anyone else for that matter.

The Lakers who seem to be trying everything that they can in order to get their hands at the championship might as well go ahead and try this strategy, which for many, is nothing less than a joke.
