When Pau Gasol was drafted into the Los Angeles Lakers, hoop fans witnessed a significant partnership being formed with the Spaniard and Kobe Bryant leading the troops. Having won championships to coming hands in the most clutch situations, this duo has been more than teammates off the court and were deemed as brothers. On the occasion of Pau Gasol’s retirement, he made sure that he remembers the Black Mamba in every sense.

After an amazing career, there is no denying that Gasol would be a future Hall of Famer. Lakers and NBA Fans will recall when Kobe Bryant was adamant that the Lakers will retire the jersey of Pau Gasol when the latter retires from the sport. Justifying the same the Spaniard went onto appreciate and acknowledge the presence of Bryant in his life and career.

During his retirement ceremony, Pau Gasol took a moment to pay tribute to his former teammate and friend, Kobe Bryant. Gasol lamented that “life is sometimes very unfair” and stated that he’d “very much like” for Bryant to be at the ceremony. There is no doubt that the two had a bond on and off the court, and one can easily see from the video that Gasol gets extremely emotional when talking about his friend and what he taught him. 

There aren’t many players who have played as well as Gasol alongside Bryant. It seemed at one point, that the duo is feeding off each other’s energy. If it wasn’t for Pau Gasol, the LA Lakers would have never won those two particular championships as well. Having said that it was applaud worthy to see Gasol thanking Bryant in his truest form while he was retiring from the sport that gave him so much.

Not only that, even in Spain, FC Barca paid their tribute to Gasol. Meanwhile, hoop fans will also be looking forward to the time when he comes to the Staples Center to deliver his retirement speech and mention the Black Mamba.
