New Coach David Ferrer will not accompany Alexander Zverev in this year’s US Open
Alexander Zverev coach
It is always a concern when a player plays a tournament without the presence of his coach. One of the Next Gen superstars, Alexander Zverev might be going through the same feeling. After confirming his participation at Flushing Meadows, Zverev will not get access to the services of his newly appointed coach, David Ferrer.
My contract limits to just European Tours: Ferrer
Retiring from tennis in 2019, David Ferrer first joined the German on a trial basis but later, he fully essayed the role.
As a coach, one would expect that the Spaniard will accompany Alexander at the US Open. However, David Ferrer revealed that its not the case, as he is bound to the contract, which limits him to coach in tournaments of Europe only. In an interview, Ferrer explained, “Its unfortunate that I can’t travel with Zverev to New York, as the contract states that I can only coach him in tournaments happening in Europe. Nevertheless, I will be available for Rome Masters and French Open. I wish Zverev best of luck for a good performance in NY.”
It’s a big blow to the German’s chances at the Flushing Meadows as he idolizes Ferrer for his mental toughness. He would have hoped of great advises from his coach during matches, but now it looks like a distant dream.
Anyways, that should not affect Alexander Zverev’s concentration of bidding for a maiden Grand Slam. He has risked his health while travelling to America to play the second Major of the year and last thing he wants is off-court distractions. Let’s hope that David Ferrer’s absence does not become a factor between Zverev and his first Major of his entire career!
