“If he’s ever going to get a chance, it’s now” Mike Florio explains why it’s now or never for Colin Kaepernick in the NFL

Colin Kaepernick once again has people wondering if he'll be back in the NFL. Mike Florio recently explained why that may not be so simple.

Colin Kaepernick generated a bit of a buzz around himself once again recently as he posted a video of him working out as a quarterback. This caused numerous people to once again wonder if a return to the NFL was imminent.

Kaepernick has been rumored to return to the NFL since 2019 when he had a workout scheduled by the NFL for interested teams to come and take a look at what he had to offer. Ultimately Kaepernick elected to skip that workout.

He hasn’t played in the NFL since 2016 when he started 11 games. He finished that season having won just 1 of those 11 games and thrown for 2241 yards, 16 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. He also had 69 rushing attempts for 468 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Those numbers certainly don’t reflect an NFL starter but they also aren’t terrible. This along with the workouts and him showing his willingness to make a return has made many people wonder if it would happen. Mike Florio recently provided some clarity on the situation.

In a segment of ‘The Rich Eisen Show’, Mike Florio was quoted saying “Back in 2020 when people had an epiphany that Colin Kaepernick had a point in 2016, it felt like if the window was ever gonna be open again it was gonna be then. Now here we are 2 years later and if he’s ever gonna get a chance, it’s now. However, I don’t think anyone wants to even flirt publicly with Colin Kaepernick because the minute you do 30% or so of your fan base loses their minds. That’s why he never got signed in the first place.”

Florio further added “What owner is going to have the moral of financial courage to do it? None of them do. None of these owners are gonna stand up and do ‘the right thing’ because they know it’s gonna cost them money and it’s gonna create a headache.”

Mike Florio also added “We heard so many BS talking points thrown all over the place and they were all flawed but it didn’t matter because fans start spouting this stuff out and it turns into a social media debate. It all started 5 years ago. He should’ve had an opportunity the moment he opted out with the 49ers. This story has been hanging around for half a decade and that’s why I don’t see it changing. Nothing else has changed that we’re gonna reverse 5 years of the NFL giving him the cold shoulder.”

There are certainly solid points as to why it’ll be very difficult now for Colin Kaepernick to find the field. Maybe somewhere during the season if a team needs a quarterback due to injury they could give him a workout to see what he’s got but it would still be hard to see this playing out.
