Purdy was named starter of the 49ers after Week 13 and his first opponent was Tom Brady and the Bucs. He delivered one of the best performances by a last pick in the NFL draft and, to everyone’s surprise, he defeated the greatest quarterback in history. The 49ers dominated the Bucs and registered a 35-7 win. Brock Purdy threw for 185 yards and two touchdowns and also rushed for one touchdown.

Brock Purdy became the first quarterback to defeat Tom Brady in their first career start. After this game, Purdy went from being called Mr. Irrelevant to Mr. Relevant.

He appeared on the recent iteration of New Heights podcast run by the best brother duo in the league, Jason and Travis Kelce. And shared how he felt defeating the 7x Super Bowl champion in his first game ever.

Purdy said, “It was a dream. And just seeing him after and, you know, obviously we won, which was special, but just seeing him after being able to dap him up, I was like standing there looking at him. He’s talking to some players. This can’t be real. So I mean, that’s just what it felt like. It felt like a dream.”

Brock Purdy had an absolutely magical run as a rookie in 2022. He won each and every game he started in the regular season and stretched the 49ers winning streak to ten. The 23-year-old didn’t stop there. In the postseason, he led San Fran all the way to the NFC championship game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

There were concerns about Brock Purdy being able to be the starting quarterback in the coming season due to the surgery he required. However, he had the surgery done on March 10 and is appearing to have recovered well from it.

It’s great news for the 49ers because he can now compete for the starting job with former first-round pick Trey Lance and veteran Sam Darnold.

There are some rumors of the 49ers ready to trade Trey Lance. Looks like the team has immense faith in pick no. 262 of the 2022 NFL draft. It’ll be interesting to see whether Brock Purdy starts Week 1!
