Christian McCaffrey, the running back of the San Francisco 49ers took a jibe at his former quarterback Cam Newton. McCaffrey played 16 games with Newton when they both were part of the Carolina Panthers. Newton failed to impress him more than Brock Purdy.
Amid all the controversy regarding Cam Newton’s ‘game-manager’ comment on Brock Purdy, McCaffrey stated that he has never played with anyone better than Purdy in his life. It had a clear meaning that McCaffrey prefers Purdy over his former quarterback Cam Newton.
McCaffrey said during an interaction with the media:
Brock is the leader of this team. Everything starts with him. He is one of the best players I have ever played with.Christian McCaffrey said
Cam Newton’s game manager comment triggered a lot of debates among the fans and the analysts. Newton, a few days back stated that he does not consider Purdy as a game changer. In addition, the signal caller claimed that he did not consider Purdy the best offensive player for the Niners.
A few days later, the former quarterback tweaked his statement a little but stood by what he originally stated. He claimed:
I’ve never said Brock Purdy was trash; what I did say is that Brock Purdy is a game manager--That’s not hate, that’s just what I feel to be facts. But I still reserve the right to say this: to be labeled a game-changer, Brock Purdy has to be the best player on the offensive side of the ball. And that’s not the case.Cam Newton said on his YouTube channel
Brock Purdy gave a befitting reply to Cam Newton
Ahead of the game against the Kansas City Chiefs, the Niners quarterback Brock Purdy opened up regarding Cam Newton’s comments. He firmly claimed that he would love to be a game manager if that helps the team in their success.
Purdy said to the press:
If you’re saying that I’m a game manager and that I don’t look flashy in how I do it. Then that’s your opinion. That’s okay. And at the end of the day, I want to do what it takes to help my team win.Brock Purdy said
Purdy’s maturity in dealing with the situation has charmed his fans. Loads of people took the issue to Twitter and praised the quarterback for his reaction.
