Josh Allen has yet to face Brock Purdy on a football field, but he understands what the 24-year-old brings to the table for the San Francisco 49ers. Allen believes that Purdy does way more than most people give him credit for.
One of the biggest criticisms of the San Francisco 49ers quarterback is that he is a system player. Furthermore, most of the heavy lifting is done by the high-caliber players around him, whether it’s the offensive line that protects him or the wide receivers.

While Purdy is preparing for Super Bowl LVIII, Allen appeared on FS1’s Speak for an exclusive interview. The Buffalo Bills QB quashed all the ‘game manager’ theories that have been plaguing Purdy recently.
Allen told the Speak’s crew:
I think that he, within the confines of his offense, does more than what is asked of him.Josh Allen said
Not only that, Allen praised Purdy’s surprising mobility. Especially during the NFC title game, when he used his feet to great effect, dragging the 49ers to a 17-point comeback win.
He added:
He makes plays outside of the structure. You go back to the last game; he made some unbelievable plays with his feet and was able to extend some plays.Josh Allen added
Josh Allen highlighted Brock Purdy’s influence on the 49ers offense
The 49ers are loaded with quality players at every position. Whether it’s Deebo Samuel, Fred Warner, or Nick Bosa, they are some of the best at what they do. In the words of All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey:
Everything starts with him. We're lucky he's our quarterback. He takes a lot of heat for absolutely no reason.Christian McCaffrey on Brock Purdy

Allen spoke similarly. The players around Purdy do well because he rarely makes any mistakes. He orchestrates the plays with such detail that most of the time they get overlooked because they aren’t as flashy as the end product.
Allen said:
We all know that he's got a great roster, but that doesn't change the fact that there's been other quarterbacks there that have had the same roster.Josh Allen on Speak
Since being picked as the last player in the 2022 NFL Draft, Purdy has led the 49ers to the NFC Championship game twice (missing out in the rookie season after suffering an injury to the throwing shoulder). Before the Iowa graduate became the starter, head coach Kyle Shanahan reached the Super Bowl once in 2020, but in the remaining three seasons, he had a negative point difference.
Allen added:
So he's [Brock Purdy] doing the right thing for his team. He's in the Super Bowl. He doesn't make mistakes. I don't know how you can knock on his door. He's doing whatever you ask of him as a quarterback to do.Josh Allen added
Purdy completed 308 passes from 444 attempts for 4280 passing yards, 31 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions, with a completion rate of 69.4 and a passer rating of 113.0 (the best in the league). He also rushed 39 times for 144 yards, scoring two touchdowns.
