“He is a very, very big part of the team”: Lamar Jackson & Baltimore Ravens are having a mutual conversation about contract extension

The Baltimore Ravens want to have Lamar Jackson for the long run

Lamar Jackson is one of the best athletes in the NFL which resulted in him becoming only the 3rd person to become NFL MVP in his sophomore season, following the footsteps of Dan Marino and Patrick Mahomes. Now that’s a pretty good club to be a part of.

Another club Jackson wants to be part of is Superbowl Champion’s. With that in mind Jackson has a huge decision to make as he enters the last year of his rookie deal with the Ravens after being drafted at the last pick in the 1st round of 2018 NFL draft.

Lamar Jackson- ‘the player’ & ‘the agent’

Jackson is up for extension and is negotiating his own contract as he does not employ a agent. What makes Jackson’s situation more unique is the fact that in an era where players don’t attend practise until an agreement is reached, Jackson is taking part in practice. Jackson said he won’t hold in as he wants to practice with his “brothers” per Jonas Shafer of the Baltimore Sun.

Ravens GM Eric DeCosta when asked about the extension, during NFL’s scouting combine in Indianapolis stated that-“He’s a guy that when we think about the Ravens three, four, five years from now, we envision Lamar being a very, very big part of that team and definitely a player that can help us win Super Bowls.”

Which is good news for Jackson who isn’t concerned about the money but wants to wants to just win and be great. Winning a Superbowls goes a long way in being counted as a great in NFL. Jackson spoke regarding the extension following Ravens practice Thursday, telling reporters “we’re having a mutual conversation“.

A two time Pro Bowler Jackson who has faced a fair bit of criticism for not being able to take his team far in the playoffs, looks to take do so this season and more. Jackson would be without Hollywood Brown who was traded away to the Arizona Cardinals earlier this offseason. Thus Jackson will have to shoulder alot which would be easier without an expiring contract looming over his head.
