“I wanted that First Hit”- Patrick Mahomes reacts to the COLOSSAL hit he got in the pre season game against Bears

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are getting ready for a new season where they hope to regain their dominance of the league which lost some of its shine last season. After going 12-5 in the regular season the Chiefs eventually lost to the Cincinnati Bengals in AFC Championship game after back-to-back Super Bowl appearances. The Super Bowl LIV champions and their half-a-billion-dollar quarterback want to be at the top once again.

The Chiefs faced Chicago Bears in a preseason game on Soldier Field. Mahomes who played limited minutes in the game was hit hard by Bears’ defensive lineman Trevis Gipson. Gipson’s helmet made contact with Mahomes’ stomach as he threw a completion to tight end Travis Kelce. Mahomes was quite candid when asked about the hit.

During the game where the Chiefs lost 19-14, Mahomes was asked about the shot he was the target of and he said-“I got hit pretty hard. I wanted that first hit and I got hit hard. He caught me right in the stomach, right between the rib pads, so it was a nice first one to take and it’ll make me better for sure.

Before the game, Patrick Mahomes had desired for a hit- “Yeah, I like to get in there and I like to get hit like one time. Once you get hit one time you kind of see what it is to get hit again as a quarterback. I feel like after that you’re good to go.”

The football gods heard Mahomes and delivered in spectacular fashion.

It was a hit but not the kind Mahomes had in mind-“I was hoping I was gonna kind of get hit and just fell, just off to the side. Not the direct helmet to the stomach and then his land on me.”

Mahomes who is one of the favourites to win the MVP might not be wishing for hits any time soon, especially during the season.
