“A certified STUD”: Sauce Gardner has officially ARRIVED; Rookie CB dazzles as the New York Jets outplay the Miami Dolphins
Sauce Gardner and the New York Jets feasted on the Miami Dolphins offense
Sauce Gardner has passed his biggest test in the NFL. The rookie cornerback played a pivotal role in restricting Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill in one of the most anticipated matchups for him as a professional athlete. The New York Jets executed to perfection last night as the offense, defense, and special teams were firing on all cylinders.
The Miami Dolphins were already at a disadvantage going into the game as their starting QB Tua Tagovailoa was still out following his scary concussion. Teddy Bridgewater was expected to start and get most of the snaps, but due to the NFL’s updated concussion protocols coming into force, the quarterback was compelled to sit out most of the game after a hard hit. The Miami Dolphins’ kryptonite seems to be concussions, as they have now lost 2 of their quarterbacks in the last two weeks to it.
New York Jets’ Sauce Gardner is looking like a bigger threat to the offense as the season progresses:
Skylar Thompson started the game for Miami and he ended with 19 completed passes, 166 yards thrown, and no touchdowns. Running back Raheem Mostert and tight end Durham Smythe bore the brunt of the offense as they were able to get a rushing touchdown each.
Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, the best wide receiver duo in the NFL, were shut out and had minimal contributions in the game. Hill ended the game with 47 yards, and Waddle was restricted to 23 yards. However, Sauce Gardner was the star of the game as he helped setup the Jets for 9 points.
The cornerback got a quarterback hit on Teddy Bridgewater and ended up getting an intentional ground penalty. On the following play, Sauce got his first ever career interception that set the Jets up for a touchdown. He had 5 tackles in total, 1 pass deflected, the interception on River Cracraft, and 1 safety forced. He was all across the stat sheet with his performance last night.
The New York Jets defense has had 7 interceptions in just 5 games, matching the total interceptions they recorded last season. This year’s Jets squad is different and they are talented and hungry. With a good offense led by Zach Wilson and the defense having players with immense potential, such as Sauce Gardner and DJ Reed, they are a force to be reckoned with.
In light of Sauce Gardner’s stellar performance, fans were in awe and took to Twitter to appreciate the cornerback:
Hot take indeed, but he has us comparing him to the best corners in the league. That is laudable.
Numbers do not lie. Period.
The perfect recipe for success.
He seems to be on lock for Defensive ROTY so far. DPOY may be a stretch.
He lives up to his name. Dude really brings the sauce on the field.
Definitely.
Sauce is the man.
New York Football has never been so exciting to watch. The Jets and the Giants are playing the best football in a long time. How long will this streak last? There is no guarantee, but it is definitely a delight to watch!
