The Cleveland Browns have found themselves at the center of all the drama that has unfolded this offseason. They have stayed in the news which isn’t a bad thing for an NFL franchise, however, the reasons for which the team has made the headlines aren’t going to please a lot of their fans.

First, they made it crystal clear that they aren’t interested in giving Baker Mayfield another chance and went all in to get Deshaun Watson. After much deliberation, they were able to rope him in for a massive amount but Deshaun’s legal battles really pushed them back.

Then there were speculations that they might give another chance to Baker, however, they ended up trading him to the Carolina Panthers. While many are opining that they have traded him to the worst possible franchise, many reckon that it is the perfect opportunity for Mayfield to redeem himself.

Talking about the Baker-Panthers situation, Shannon Sharpe had a few things to say on ‘The Undisputed.’ He claimed that firstly, the Browns should have directly told him that they were going to look for another QB instead of going behind his back. Then talking about Baker, Sharpe said that he was so eager to get out of Cleveland, he took $3.5 Million less in salary and decided to out it in incentive.

I don’t like it when players do that because it leaves the team in charge of the money. Baker was like, you know what, I am gonna let go $3.5 Million, you gonna put it in team incentives, touchdowns, passes, whatever the case may be, I believe I can make that money back, that’s what he is saying,” Shannon said.

In other words, what he is telling Sam Darnold is that I believe that I am gonna beat you for the starting QB job and that’s how I’ll get that incentive,” Shannon said, adding that judging from the criteria of a number one overall pick, Baker has simply not been good enough. However, when Shannon was criticizing Baker’s numbers, Skip Bayless intervened and claimed that one needs to understand that he was playing with an injury.

However, Shannon made it clear that one just cannot use playing with an injury as an excuse. There is no denying the fact that Baker was indeed terrible last season. He needs to prove his worth again.
