Will Tom Brady really sign for the Las Vegas Raiders as Troy Aikman predicts?

Rumors of Tom Brady‘s unretiring have gained pace, and Troy Aikman fueled the fire by saying that Brady might suit up for the Las Vegas Raiders in 2023. The former NFL star believes that, if rumors are to be believed, Brady might replace Jimmy Garoppolo, as the latter’s future at the Raiders seems to be in doubt.

ESPN reported that Garoppolo suffered a foot injury while playing for the Raiders in 2022 and hasn’t managed to fully recover from it. Moreover, the 31-year-old underwent surgery after signing a 3-year deal in March. Because of the sudden injury, the Raiders had to add a waiver clause to his contract. This means that the Vegas-based team has every right to release Garoppolo if he fails to recover from his injury during the offseason.

In an interview with TMZ Sports, Aikman said he wouldn’t “rule anything out” and would not be surprised if Brady suits up to play for the team he partly owns. He believes the good relationship between Brady and Raiders coach John McDaniels may influence the former Patriots star to return.

Aikman also highlighted that Garoppolo has a massive contract with the Raiders and acknowledged that Brady is “done playing.” However, the NFL Hall of Famer also made it clear that “you never know” what the future holds.

Tom Brady announced his retirement in 2022 and returned to the field again for the New England Patriots. The 45-year-old quarterback had already filed his retirement papers with the NFL and then the NFLPA in the 2023 off-season.

Brady made the headlines again when he decided to strike a deal with Mark Davies and become a minority stakeholder in the Las Vegas Raiders. However, the deal is yet to become official as it will need approval from at least 24 NFL owners. Moreover, if the deal materializes, Brady will not be able to play for any other team in the NFL ever again.

It’s more than likely that the deal would fall through, as other owners would not want Brady to play while owning a part of the team. So, whether Tom Brady actually comes out of retirement and becomes a Raiders player, as Aikman says, only time will tell. But that is running out as the regular season is fast approaching.
