The San Francisco 49ers are yet to find a solution to their contractual problems with one of their significant wide receivers, Deebo Samuel. The 26-year-old wide receiver had handed in a trade request to the franchise, as he did not want to extend his contract beyond his rookie contract.

Samuel showed off his intentions of leaving the franchise by the team’s OTA sessions, but eventually returned for the mandatory minicamp in what was seen as a positive thing by the 49ers camp. However, as per new reports, Deebo Samuel has not rescinded his official trade request.

The 49ers have made it clear that they want Samuel to stay on at the franchise and will not grant his request to join another side during the offseason. Even franchise general manager had vouched that they would try their best to keep hold of their wide receiver till the end of their contract.

“Well, we haven’t traded him, and — I’ve used the word fool — I’d be a fool to trade him,” 49ers GM John Lynch said of Deebo Samuel’s position earlier this month. “So yes, Deebo will be part of the 49ers this season.”

Deebo Samuel is coming off a breakout season in 2021 where he led the NFL with 18.2 yards per reception and had 1,770 total yards from scrimmage. Last year, head coach Kyle Shanahan elected to deploy Samuel out of the backfield along with his prowess as a receiver and he shined in that role, totaling 365 yards and eight touchdowns on 59 carries.
