Vaccinated players to receive different treatment at Madrid Masters

The tennis world is already divided in its opinion about the Covid-19 vaccine. While some players are keen to accept it, the rest have their own inhibitions. However, the ATP and the WTA have encouraged one and all to receive the vaccine, in order to play tournaments without too many restrictions.

A few weeks earlier, the ATP had also announced that the vaccinated players will be given preference and treated differently as compared to the ones who haven’t taken the dose.

Now, the upcoming Masters 1000 event in Madrid is also following suit. As informed by the tournament director and current ATP player, Feliciano Lopez, Players who got vaccinated or who have antibodies after having Covid-19 will get a different treatment compared to the other players in Madrid. There is a list of players who will not be tested.

Prize Money reduced by 73%

Recently, World No.3, Daniil Medvedev expressed his disinterest in taking the vaccine. Unfortunately, he tested positive and was forced to withdraw from the Monte Carlo Masters. It is also well documented on how the World No.1, Novak Djokovic feels about the subject. While the Russian will return to action in the Spanish capital, the Serb has withdrawn from the event.

In addition, another announcement has come through on the prize money front. The Madrid winner will get €315,000. That’s a 73% reduction compared to 2019 when the winner got €1.2 million. The event will start on the first week of May, with Rafael Nadal as the top seed in the men’s section. Australian, Ash Barty will be the No.1 seed in the women’s draw.
