Nick Kyrgios confirms skipping US Open 2020

Ever since the ATP officials have released their jam-packed schedule for the remainder of the year, many players have withdrew themselves from the competition in the Flushing Meadows. It appears to be a similar case for Nick Kyrgios, who has pulled himself out of the Cincinnati Masters, which is to be held in a couple of weeks.

Cincinnati Masters is scheduled right before the US Open. The Australian player was already devastated on hearing about the organization of a major tournament in the States, given the country is in such delicate battle with the ongoing pandemic. Not to everyone’s surprise, it was revealed in a recent tweet, that Kyrgios would not be taking part in the First Tournament.

It is being assumed that the same outcome would also be replicated for the US Open. Kyrgios has called the tournament organizers, ‘selfish’ for keeping the tournament in the middle of the pandemic. Keeping in mind such statements, it is very unlikely that the Australian would even think about taking part in the New York held tournament.

US Open’s Current Scenario

US Open officials would surely not like another big player backing out, already after Nadal and Djokovic’s participation are hanging by a thin thread. On the contrary players like Dominic Thiem and Serena Williams have given their confirmation for the same.

The kind of restriction imposed in the tournament have made it an issue for the players to participate in it. Being played behind closed doors and with no one in attendance, are also some of the precautionary actions which are taken for organizing the tournament successfully.

Having said that US Open organizers would surely not want the likes of Kyrgios to also back out of the Grand Slam.
