IPL 2021: Twitter reacts as Nitish Rana produces a stunning 80-run knock against Sunrisers Hyderabad

Nitish Rana

Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) top-order consisting of Indian batters made merry and piled on the runs against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). The usually strong SRH attack was made to look clueless as Nitish Rana got going right from the very first ball. Hitting Bhuvneshwar Kumar for a four, Rana seemed set for a big score. That was exactly what followed in an exhibition of explosive hitting.

Nitish Rana kept finding the boundaries at will and did not allow the bowlers to wrest control at all. After a promising partnership with Shubman Gill where he played the aggressor, he put on another masterful stand with Rahul Tripathi who walked in after Rashid Khan dismissed Gill. The duo’s partnership was for 93 runs as KKR were set on their way to a massive total.

Rana then fell short of his hundred by 20 runs after Tripathi’s dismissal. Incredibly, if Rana had scored a century, it would have been just the second century by a KKR player in the history of the IPL. The first and only hundred was hit in the first match of the very first edition of the IPL when current KKR head-coach Brendon McCullum lit it up against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by scoring an unbeaten 158.
