Rafa has a record 20 Grand Slam titles to his name. The Spaniard has accomplished more than what most even dream for. One of the few feathers missing from Nadal’s cap is that of this year-end championship. He has reached the final twice, but has failed to take the last leap forward.

His uncle and former coach, Toni Nadal has weighed in on the chances that his nephew has in the stellar line-up of the competition in 2020.

In an interview with RTVE, Toni revealed that while Rafa is in a good form, he will have to fend off some challenges in the coming week.

“What I saw of Rafael in training is interesting. He arrives in London well prepared and with possibilities to do better than in Paris. This group is going to be difficult, everyone can qualify,” he said.

Whilst he is at the fore-front of the ‘GOAT’ race, Rafa has not added many indoor-hard court titles to his name. He still remains title-less at the Paris Masters and ATP Finals. The surface in particular doesn’t bode extremely well with Rafa’s game. Citing this, Toni further said that the conditions in London always troubled his nephew.

“This tournament has always cost him dearly in the past. It is the track that hurts the most for him,” he revealed.

Rafa will begin his bid for the 2020 title tomorrow. He will clash against Andrey Rublev in what promises to be a highly-anticipated clash.
