Not against it, but I don’t want any sort of vaccine…to put into my body: Djokovic over anti-vaxxer remarks

Novak Djokovic over anti vaxxer remarks
Novak Djokovic is not a man to mince his words. He talks straight, he talks crisp. During a recent interview with the New York Times, the 33-year-old Serb told how he was so close of missing the trip to New York. Moreover, the 17-time Grand Slam champion also said that he is not against the vaccines but does not want to be forced to take one.
Was ‘Very close’ of withdrawing from US Open: Novak Djokovic

Djokovic revealed that he made his decision less than a week before arriving in New York. After getting assured that players would not have to quarantine for 14 days when returning to Europe, he confirmed his participation.
“There were a lot of uncertainties. Yeah, still there are things that are not clear. I want to play and not feel afraid of being in a risky, dangerous health situation. Of course, I have to be cautious and respect the rules and regulations as anybody else. But there is high unpredictability. Anything can happen on or off the tennis court,” said the three-time US Open winner.
I will not force a vaccine into my body: Djokovic

Djokovic faced criticism when he cast doubts on the credibility of COVID-19 vaccines. In the New York Times interview, the World No.1 explained the real meaning of what he said about the vaccines.
“Media has manipulated what I actually said. A bit of out of context they have gone, I think. They say that I am against all sorts of vaccines. However, I said that I don’t want anyone to force a vaccine into my body. For me that’s unacceptable. Who am I to go against vaccination when it saves so many lives around the world? I’m sure pretty much sure that there are vaccines with little side effect curing diseases around the world. But this mutating coronavirus, I mean how can we sure that its vaccine will sole our problem?” added the Serb.
From this interview to the New York Times, it is clear that Novak Djokovic never shies away from speaking the truth. However, his focus now should be shifted to Cincinnati Masters beginning from tomorrow.
After the ATP 1000 event, US Open will take place where Djokovic will bid for his 4th title in New York and 18th Major overall. Tennis fans should be happy as after a long break, the talismanic player is back in action!
