The first NRAI selection trials of the year in rifle/pistol began in a spectacular way in Kerala, with Navy’s Kiran Ankush Jadhav shooting a World Record score of 253.4 in the finals of the Men’s 10m Air Rifle competition. The second placed Rudranksh Balasaheb Patil of Maharashtra scored an equally impressive 252, while third place went to Nitish Kumar of Haryana. The current World Record is 252.8 by China’s Yu Haonan. While Kiran’s feat will not be recognized by the ISSF, it yet again shows an example of the sheer depth of talent in India at present. The Olympic-qualified Divyansh Singh Panwar and Deepak Kumar did not even participate at these trials. The qualifications were also competitive, with Hriday Hazarika topping with 630.7 and the 8th placed Akhil Sheoran scoring 627.4.
Rudranksh won in both the junior and youth events with 251.3 and 251.9 respectively, with Satayjeet Kandhol second and Shahu Tushar Mane third in the former and Shahu and Yash Vardhan second and third in the latter.
Rajeshwari ‘Ria’ Kumari was the star of the trap event at the shotgun trials being held concurrently in Delhi. She was second in Women’s Trap Trial 2 after a finals shoot-off with winner Shagun Chowdhary (with Seema Tomar coming third) and won in Trial 3. Sabeera Haris and Seema Tomar again were second and third in T3.
In Men’s Trap T2, Lakshay Sheoran was the winner with Kynan Chenai second and Vivaan Kapoor third. Mohd. Saif Sheikh won in T3 with Ahvar Rizvi and Namanveer Singh Brar second and third respectively.
In junior trap events, the podium finishes went to Vivaan, Shapath Bharadwaj and Shardul Vihan in Men’s T2 and to Jungsher Virk, Shardul and Vishvadeep Singh in T3.
In women’s junior trap, the top three in T2 were Kirti Gupta, Sabeera Haris and Aadya Tripathi and in T3 it was the turn of Neeru, Priti Rajak and Sovaiba Bukhari.
