One should eat 5-7 smaller meals to keep the metabolism good.

But this is not right..Why ??
Let me tell you something –

Our TDEE(Total Daily Energy Expenditure) depends on our BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate), which is ‘Calories you burn at complete rest’, second your ‘Activity Level‘ and third is your TEF(Thermic Effect Of Food) that is ‘Total energy required to digest and process the food we eat’.

We think that increasing meal frequency will effect our TEF but, this Thermic effect is independent of number of meals. In 24 hours, the thermic effect of food is irrespective of meals is same !

So, BMR and Activity level effect your metabolism largely. Morever your activity level, more you burn your fat.

Article in “British Journal Of Nutrition” on meal frequency verify this statement about meal Intake.

So, it does not effect your metabolic rate whether you eat same quantity of food in 2 times or 5- 7 times. At last, number of meals has very little role to do with your metabolism, major players are your ‘BMR’ and your ‘Activity Level’.
