Manchester United missed the chance to move third in the Premier League table as they drew against Southampton. The result left the Red Devils at fifth place behind Chelsea and Leicester City. The visiting team upset the home team in the dying minutes of the game as Michael Obafemi scored a dramatic 96th minute equalizer to finish the game 2-2.
The United gaffer told Sky Sports that “It’s the worst time to concede a goal but that happens in football, You’ve just got to take it because we’ve won so many games that way ourselves. It’s all part of the learning for this team to be sat there, really disappointed, after you think the three points are in the bag .But probably we didn’t deserve three points today. They played well. They’re physical, very fit. We never got the rhythm in our passing, especially when we got to 2-1 but we created chances and played some fantastic football at times.”
Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial gave United a 2-1 lead in the 23rd minute but were stopped in their tracks of attaining three points in 96th minute by Southampton’s equalizer.
Solskjaer wasn’t seen making excuses as he stated “No, I think we’ve had enough recovery. It was just one of those days where we didn’t take our chances and they took theirs at the end.
He later added “David [De Gea] made one very good save, but apart from that we had all the chances. Southampton are a good side, though, and you’re not going to just be given three points.”
Luke Shaw picked an ankle injuring in the second half. Luke’s replacement Brandon Williams also picked up a nasty eye injury which left him bloodied on the field after a horrific clash against Southampton.
The road to champions league is tough one and it seems like United are going to give their all for remaining fixtures in order to get a direct entry into the next year’s European competition.
