Tokyo Olympics: Karate Live Results for Men’s 75kg Kumite

Day 14 of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, saw Men’s Kumite 75kg category reach its conclusion. The day kicked off with Men’s Kata Elimination. It was followed by women’s 61kg Kumite, and finally ended with the Men’s 75kg Kumite. The semi-finals and Gold medal matches were scheduled right after the elimination rounds.

In the men’s 75kg Kumite semi-finals, Gabor Harspataka of Hungary and Rafael Aghayev of Azerbaijan faced off. In the second semi-final, top-ranked Luigi Busa of Italy and Ukrainian Stanislav Horuna squared off. The loser of the semi-finals will have to settle for Bronze, while the winner advances to the Gold medal match.

In the first semi-final, Rafael Aghayev of Azerbaijan earned a stunning victory over Gabor Harspataka of Hungary. Aghayev was all over Harspataka, as the Hungarian struggled to get a foothold in the match. The final score read 7-0 in favour of Aghayev. Complete domination from the Azerbaijani.

World no.1 Luigi Busa of Italy made it to the finals of the men’s Kumite 75kg category as expected with a comfortable 3-0 win over world no.3 Stanislav Horuna. Busa had little to no trouble dispatching the Ukranian, as he advanced to the finals, where he will be taking on Rafael Aghayev of Azerbaijan.

All Luigi Busa needed to score was 1, to get the job done. The world no.1 Italian made sure that the Gold medal was his, as he edged past Rafael Aghayev of Azerbaijan. Aghayev had to settle for the Silver medal.

Gabor Harspataka and Stanislav Horuna won the Bronze medals, while Rafael Aghayev bagged the Silver medal. It was the Italian Luigi Busa’s night as he bagged the coveted Gold.
