Novak Djokovic‘s disastrous Adria Tour is still haunting him. Despite being at the receiving end of backlash and criticism he is till the ATP Council President. Moreover, he spoke recently about having no sign of guilt due to the events.

Now, in another interview with Sportsklub, he spoke on varied topics before of his clash at Cincinnati Open.

Novak looks back at the collateral damage by his infamous Adria Tour

The Serbian organized the Adria Cup to welcome back tennis in his region post-pandemic. Unfortunately, players participating got infected along with their kins. The tournament that happened in June is still making rounds for its poor implementation.

Noval said, “I’d leave the judgment to others about my contribution, but in the last 10 years, as much as I’m more or less in the Players’ Council, I’ve tried to contribute as much as I can,” Djokovic said. “No one in the Council has financial compensation or interest – we offer our energy, time, and status in the tennis world to improve this sport and the position of the players within it.”

He claims to be supported by most of the players, but as the two sides of the coin, there are two kinds of players in the circuit. For instance, Nick Kyrgios has been vocally criticizing Nole for his Adria Tour.

“At least what I’m dealing with, most of the players I’ve spoken to, have a lot of support. I also feel a responsibility, I’m still World No. 1, so my presence at the Council has a lot of weight. It’s the only way to do something for the interests of the players, although the system is complicated and problematic, there are many different currents and obstacles,” Djokovic continued.

Novak Djokovic will be aiming to win the Western and Southern Open. The draw has seen Alexander Zverev and Dominic Thiem make an exit, which improves his chances.

The Serbian is the top contenders in the absence of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal at the hard-court season. He will play his pre-quarterfinals on Tuesday at Grandstand.
