A year after Patrick Mahomes joined the NFL in 2017, the U.S. Supreme Court legalized sports betting, giving fans a chance to make some extra cash on the side. Since then, betting companies have become a major part of the sports scene, and these days, sports betting feels almost inseparable from the games themselves.

However, no matter how efficiently the government regulates the betting scene, there are a few who always discover loopholes to abuse the system. And it’s not limited to just regular old joes across the country, occasionally players themselves get their hands dirty for a quick buck.

In 2022, the NFL suspended wide receiver Calvin Ridley for gambling on NFL games a year earlier while away from the Atlanta Falcons to address mental health concerns, as per NBC Los Angeles. A year later, Detroit Lions wide receiver, Jameson Williams received six game suspensions for mobile betting that occurred at the team facility on non-NFL sports.

More recently, NBA point guard of the Miami Heat Terry Rozier and Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups were arrested as part of a federal gambling probe, involving the mafia. However, Patrick Mahomes stays away from placing bets on sports fixtures. Speaking with the media on Wednesday, the father of three, revealed his genuine thoughts on the matter.

The NFL & the NFLPA kinda tell us all the different rules, that you can and can not do. I just stay away from it. I don’t want to put myself in that position. Your life is so great, why mess with it? More than anything, it does get weird sometime when you got fans talking about it, like you just tryin to live life and play the game & sometimes they get really attached and even more than the regular fans because they have money on the line so, from me to them, I would just say, don’t do anything you can’t recuperate and live without.

Bo Nix and the Denver Broncos defied all expectations, going on a seven-game winning streak to take control of the division at the expense of the Chiefs, who had dominated it for nine straight seasons. On Sunday, November 16, these two team face each other at Mile High Stadium. The Chiefs are heavy favorites to secure a win even though they are 5-4 while the Broncos are 8-2.

Winning Super Bowls is always the standard in KC, but that journey starts with claiming supremacy in the West. That makes the Sunday’s fixture an must win affair for Mahomes and Andy Reid. Mahomes said:

We have a lot of division games in front of us. If we can go out there and handle business and do what I think we can do, we can find a way to win this division. Everything is kind of out in front of us. We just have to go out there with the right mindset.

Mahomes and the Chiefs need to be in top form to defeat the Broncos defense that has accumulated 46 sacks (14 more than the next best Seahawks).
