The Petr Yan vs Aljamain Sterling battle rages on – outside the octagon. Their title fight at UFC 259 prematurely ended, when Petr Yan illegally kneed Aljamain Sterling, thereby losing his bantamweight title to the ‘Funk Master’. It was also the first time there has been a title shift due to a disqualification.

Yan initially took to Twitter apologizing for his illegal knee and wished Sterling a speedy recovery. However, later he began calling Sterling a clown on Instagram, after Sterling posted pictures and videos of himself partying with friends – ‘with the bantamweight belt on his shoulder’. It was fellow fighter Merab Dvalishvili who brought it to Sterling’s notice, claiming that Petr Yan showed his true colours on Instagram, and it was his manager who was using his Twitter account.

The clown here is you

Responding to Dvalishvili’s mention of Petr Yan clowning Sterling, Sterling himself tweeted,”.@PetrYanUFC please allow me to cleanly knee you in the temple, while you aren’t looking! See how much of a “clown”I would be then. I can admit RD 4 you were starting to land more shots, but the fight was statistically close, despite me fatiguing early. The clown here is you.

Paper champ ducking the rematch already“, Yan tweeted, after Sterling responded to a Dvalishvili video mentioning that he would fight Henry Cejudo instead.

A few minutes later Petr Yan took a dig at Aljamain for celebrating at a part with his title, after claiming that ‘he wouldn’t accept the belt that way’. Aljamain replied tweeting, “You’re right Petey. I should’ve told everyone who flew out to Las Vegas, to not come to my house, to not say they were happy to see me, and to not want any pictures with me. – By this logic, I should’ve been locked in my room until my next fight. Makes sense.

Going by the look of things, only a rematch ASAP would do justice!
