The rule states that a player can play for maximum 2 clubs in a season. In a temporary rule change, FIFA has allowed players to play for up to 3 clubs in a season. In light of the effects of COVID-19 pandemic on sports, the change is announced.

The global soccer body, FIFA added that the move was “to avoid any concern regarding the unemployed players.”

FIFA also said, it would allow national associations to open their transfer window for the 2020/21 season before the current campaign has finished.

The change is intended to allow clubs to complete the 19/20 season with their original squad. The current campaign is extended from May into June and July in some European countries.
