Players Join Sports Minister Rijiju’s Campaign Of Promoting ‘Fit India’ Movement amid Lockdown

Indian Youth Affairs and Sports Minister, Kiren Rijiju, on Wednesday, urged Indian Athletes to promote ‘Fit India’ movement amid the lockdown due to the Corona-virus scare in the country.

Today, many renowned athletes like Bajrang Punia, Mary Kom, and shooter Anjum Moudgil on Wednesday joined Rijiju’s campaign of promoting ‘Fit India’ movement during the lockdown.

Reportedly, Rijiju urged people on social media to at least take up a skipping rope and exercise whilst they are at home during the lockdown. He also urged players and athletes to promote this as a challenge on their social media accounts and build up an online unity while maintaining proper social distancing and helping each other to beat the Novel-Corona Virus.

“SAI is promoting #FitIndiaMovement during the 21-Day lockdown. I appeal everyone to take up this simple exercise of Skipping Rope (rassii kudna) at home. You can share it too. let’s unite online, while maintaining social distance. rssii pkdd’-bharat jodd’#IndiaFightsCorona,” Rijiju tweeted.

Indian Athletes have now taken up the matter in their hands, sportspersons and athletes have been posting their videos on various social networking sites like Twitter and Instagram. They have also added up messages for their fans on what other measures they can take to fight the rapidly spreading disease.

Indian shooter, Anjum Moudgil uploaded her video on Instagram and wrote that rope skipping helps in building endurance, stamina, and muscles. She also added that with regular practice, this can be done easily indoors and at home.

Freestyle wrestler Bajrang Punia also uploaded his video doing the rope skipping and encouraged people to spend 2-3 minutes exercise which will also boost the ‘Fit India Movement.’

Ace Boxer Mary Kom uploaded her rope skipping video as did Amit Panghal, Jeremy Lalrinnunga, Mirabai Chanu, and Jyothi Surekha Vennam.

On Tuesday, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a 21-day lockdown in the country as a precautionary measure against coronavirus.

“In view of the current situation, the nationwide total lockdown will be in place for 21 days — three weeks. It is a kind of a curfew,” said Prime Minister Modi said during his address to the nation.

The total number of positive coronavirus cases in India has climbed to a whopping 606, a report stated.
