The WTA Tour has been home to some of the greatest athletes in the world. This includes the likes of Monica Seles, Steffi Graf, Billie Jean King, Serena Williams, Venus Williams, Simona Halep and countless more. What has motivated these champions to rise above in the ranks and put all they are on the line each day has piqued the curiosity of many.
Recently, some established and up-and-coming players have opened up about what acts as an encouragement for them.
Unique Motivations for the WTA Stars
Former World No.7 and one of America’s greatest, Madison Keys declared that tennis is her outlet. Further, the 25-year-old thrives in the competition and looks forward to channeling her emotions on the court. “I’m really competitive,” she stated.
French Open 2017 champion, Jelena Ostapenko declared that on her good days, she “can beat almost anybody.” In addition, the 23-year-old embraces her on-court battles by indulging in the emotions she’s feeling.
Hungaria’s Timea Babos makes one of the most successful doubles-team along with France’s Kristina Mladenovic. Babos has claimed four Grand Slam titles in the women’s doubles category. Also, the 27-year-old defied all odds to go pro. Further, inspite of initial hesitations from her family, she now competes for them. “I feel very lucky that my family supported,” she added.
China’s rising star, 19-year-old Wang Xiyu, has already broken through into the Top-150 of the world. Vying the competition and the upcoming season, Xiyu declared, “I want to be the World No.1.”
Two-time Grand Slam champion in the doubles-category, Barbora Krejcikova is a very resilient champion who is aiming to tackle the obstacles ahead of her. “I have the passion for it. Just love it,” she stated. Moreover, the 24-year-old continues to compete for her love of the sport trumps any and all desires.
