Liverpool drew 2-2 with Brighton as Trossard gave the away side a crucial point

Liverpool drew with Brighton at Anfield and lost a big opportunity to keep up their great mementum. Liverpool started very well as Henderson gave them an early red with a wonderful long shot. Sadio Mane doubled the home side’s lead as headed the ball in from Chamberlain’s corner.

But Brighton fought back very well as a wonderful strike from Mwepu gave them some hope before the break. They came back stronger in the second half and equalized the score as Trossard ran into Liverpool’s defense and scored with a well-taken finish.

Liverpool player ratings

My Post 9 20 - FirstSportz

Alisson 7/10

Made some great saves to deny the efficient attack of Brighton. Mwepu’s goal was too unprecedented and he could not do much about it. His distribution was decent and he wasn’t at fault for Trossard’s goal too as it was much of a defensive fragility.

Trent Alexander Arnold 6.5/10

Defensively was caught at times by Cucurella and the recoveries were not great. His crossing was decent though and contributed at times to the attack.

Ibrahima Konate 6/10

First half he was good and his distribution was at the point. However, he lost his composure in the second half and was at fault for the goal.

Virgil Van Dijk 6.5/10

Quite similar to Konate he had a great first half but looked off the pace after the break. His pass for Salah which helped in the build-up play was superb.

Andrew Robertson 6/10

Robertson had a great space at times to put good crosses but he just could not get enough whip or direction. Lost ball quite a few times in the second half.

Jordan Henderson 7/10

Had a brilliant first scored a very good goal and his passing was eye-catching at times. However, he was sloppy in the second half.

Naby Keita N/A

Was substituted for injury.

Curtis Jones 5/10

Lost midfield battles with Bissouma. His positional awareness wasn’t good enough and he did not track to contribute to the defense after losing the ball so many times.

Mohamed Salah 7/10

Wasn’t his best game by far but he was still effective at times. He gave an assist for Henderson’s goal.

Roberto Firmino 5/10

His passing wasn’t perfect by all means and lost the ball so many times in crucial areas. He also had a remarkable opportunity to score after Salah provided him with a wonderful through the pass.

Sadio Mane

Oxlade Chamberlain 6.5/10

He had a decent spell after coming on. Looked like he was trying to offer something from the left flank but the end product was missing.

Minamino N/A

Joel Veltman 6.5/10

Had a tough first half but made a strong return in the second half. He was decent in making ball recoveries in his right side.

Luis Dunk 6.5/10

Sadio Mane gave him a tough time in the first half but as time passed he grew into the game very well.

Shane Duffy 7/10

His passing accuracy was amazing and the defender won most of his individual battles.

Marc Cucurella 6.5/10

The left back stroke a well-taken shot in the second half. He was caught by Salah in the build-up of first goal but after that he was decent.
