Manchester United locked horns with Southampton at Old Trafford with an aim to bounce back from the last result. Southampton came to the stadium with confidence after beating Tottenham Hotspur in midweek.
Manchester United broke the deadlock through Jadon Sancho as he converted Rashford’s pass into a goal. Southampton kept on trying and Che Adams canceled Sancho’s goal with a smart right-footed finish in the right bottom corner.
Southampton held on till the end to earn a valuable point away from home. Manchester United’s top-four hopes suffer a big blow after this 1-1 draw against Southampton.

David De Gea 7/10
De Gea has been one of the best players for Manchester United this season and he displayed a pair of strong hands to deny Armstrong in the latter minutes of the first half. He could have covered the far post to prevent goal but it was more of a defensive mistake than goalkeeping fragility.
Diogo Dalot 6.5/10
The Portuguese fullback was very good on the ball and sent some exciting lobbed crosses for Rashford in the first half. He was constantly driving forward in order to contribute to the attack. However, he could have done better in a situation where the Saints started building an attack for their goal from his side.
Rafael Varane 6.5/10
Varane was very good in his distribution and wasn’t much troubled in the first half. He covered Broja well at times but he couldn’t do anything to stop Adams equalizer.
Harry Maguire 6/10
Harry Maguire, who recently a lot of criticism, did very well in blocking Broja’s cross as Adams was waiting to put it in the back of the net. He lost the duel with Broja in the end which could have led to a goal. However, he hit the target with the header but Foster made a brilliant save.
Luke Shaw 6/10
Shaw was combining very well with Jadon Sancho on the left flank and he released his fellow Englishman many times with through passes. He dropped in midfield at times to distribute the ball well.
Scott McTominay 6/10
He was a bit clumsy in the middle of the park as he gave away some needless fouls and received a warning from the referee. He adjusted well in a shift of plays and had a good little exchange with Pogba which led to a good goal-scoring opportunity.
Paul Pogba 7/10
Pogba played with real authority in midfield. His tricks and tweaks caused a problem to the rearguard. The Frenchman had the ball in the net converting Ronaldo’s pass but the flag was up. He was constantly trying to make things happen for that winner.
Bruno Fernandes 6.5/10
His pressing was impressive throughout the game. He was trying to make the things tick constantly but just could not crack the code.
Jadon Sancho 7.5/10
Former Borussia Dortmund player had an impressive outing against Saints. He was a threat throughout the game from the left flank. He sent a delicious ball to Ronaldo who nearly scored and then he scored by himself connecting with Rashford’s pass.
Cristiano Ronaldo 7/10
Ronaldo nearly scored the goal within fifteen minutes when he went around the goalkeeper but the power of the strike wasn’t enough and it was cleared by Saints. He sent a good low ball to Pogba who hit the target but the Portuguese was offside.
Marcus Rashford 6.5/10
Rashford was very lively on the right flank throughout the ninety minutes. He had many duels with the left-back, some were successful hile some were not. He provided the assist for Sancho’s goal.
Jesse Lingard 7/10
He looked lively after coming on and was trying to find Ronaldo and Rashford in the right position. He also won a good free kick in the end.
Anthony Elanga 6.5/10
He looked efficient in carrying the ball after coming on but lacked the time to get a direct contribution.
Fraser Forster 7/10
He could not do anything to stop Sancho’s goal but later he kept Saints in the game. He made two saves in succession; first was to deny Ronaldo’s volley and the latter one to stop Dalot’s close-range shot. He made a world-class save in the end.
Romain Perraud 7.5/10
His positional play helps his teammates to build up the attacks from his flanks. He had a good shot from near the box but was saved by De Gea. He covered Rashford well at times.
Mohammed Salisou 6.5/10
He carried the ball with some authority which helped the team to build-up play from the back. Further, he was aerially sound winning his duels and making significant clearances.
J. Bednarek 6/10
Partnered Salisou well and some of the interceptions he made in the second half were crucial. Further his pass success rate was impressive.
Kyle Walker Pieters 7/10
He was brilliant going forward second half. However, at times, he left the space too open on his flank. His composure on the ball was neat and distributed well.
His physical presence helped Saints immensely. He was constantly releasing wingers on the run; trying to make things happen from the middle of the park.
Stuart Armstrong 6/10
He hit well from the close range in the dying minutes of the first half but was denied by the Spanish keeper. However, he was caught many times on his flank as he lost some duels with the red shirts.
Mohamed Elyounoussi 7/10
After that impressive performance at Tottenham, he was yet again very good in this game. He provided the assist for Che Adams and created the most chances in the game.
James Ward Prouse 6/10
Ward Prouse was very efficient on the ball but not much off the ball. He lost ground duels with Red Devils’ midfield but still had a good ball distribution.
Che Adams 7/10
Adams who was the match-winner in midweek scored yet again for Saints. He found the back of the net with a very smart finish beating De Gea at the far post. He was threatening the defense throughout the game.
Armando Broja 7/10
Broja looked very impressive near the box. He defeated Maguire with his tricks and could have scored the winner. He has proved to be a good signing for Southampton.
Jack Stephens 7/10
He added stability to Saints’ backline. He was there to clear the ball near the box in order to prevent the United attack.
