After recovering from a calf injury ,which had cut short her campaign at the the Australian Open in January, Indian tennis star Sania Mirza will return to action at the ongoing Dubai Open on Wednesday.
6 time Grand slam winner Sania will pair up with her French partner Caroline Garcia and they face Russia’s Alla Kudryavtseva and Slovenia’s Katarina Srebotnik in the 1st round of the women’s doubles category on Wednesday.
“Quitting a grand slam tournament due to an injury is a sad experience. Especially when you are back into the game after a long break. But thanks to my physio Dr. Faisal Hayat Khan (Burjeel Hospital for Advanced Surgery) for making me fit for the tournament. I have started practicing and look forward to a great tournament,” Sania said.
Returning to the circuit after a break of 2 years, Sania’s first Grand Slam appearance of 2020 at the Australian Open had ended with an early exit. Due to a right calf injury, the Indian ace had to retire mid-way into her women’s doubles first-round match.
“It was unfortunate that I had to withdraw from the Grand Slam tournament due to injury,” Sania said. Especially in the event that she returned to court after a long hiatus. The doctors and the Burjeel Hospital are pleased with their contribution in helping her recover from the injury. “The training is going ahead and the tournament is going to get better,” Sania added.
