Queensland government postponed work on 2032 Olympics stab to deal with COVID

Senior International Olympic official John Coates said that while the Queensland government is focusing on the COVID-19 crises, he agreed to the decision to postpone work on its proposal of the 2032 Games on Saturday.

The Australian newspaper reported that, in a letter to the state parliament, Queensland Premier Anastasia Palaszczuk ascertained the decision to halt their work on Friday.

“As Queensland’s and Australia’s focus has been placed on responding to coronavirus (the candidature leadership group) agreed that the 2032 Games candidature discussions be put on hold until further notice,” Palaszczuk wrote.

The Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) President Coates said everyone understood that the government have to deal with the issue of public health and nation wellbeing.

“The candidature will have its role to play in terms of jobs and growth in the Queensland economy once we have seen our way through the current crisis,” he said in a statement.

The Queensland also proposed the Games to be held on the state’s largest city, Brisbane as the Summer Olympics has held in Australia twice in Melbourne in 1956 and Sydney in 2000.

Coates, the head of the International Olympic Committee ‘s inspectorate for Tokyo also declared that due to coronavirus crises, Japanese organisers encountered “real problems” hosting the postponed 2020 Games next year.
