Roger Federer’s return to action at the Qatar Open is the talk in the sporting world at the moment. After a lengthy gap of almost over 13 months, the Swiss returns to action in Doha. There have been several concerns regarding his double knee operation, with doubts cast over is ability to play top level tennis again.

Roger Federer himself stated that his expectations are quite low at the moment and he aims to be at his 100% by the time Wimbledon is around the corner. However, he does hope to surprise himself with a better than expected performance in Doha.

Rainer Schuettler, former world number five believes that what Roger Federer has achieved in his career will always remain outstanding. The German believes that not even a few defeats can change that fact. “What Roger Federer has achieved in his career will always remain outstanding. He has broken so many records and won tournaments that even a few defeats would not change that,” Schuettler said to Eurosport.

Roger Federer to play at Qatar Open for the first time since 2012

Roger Federer will compete at the Qatar Open for the first time after 2012. The Swiss is seeded second this time and has received a bye in the first round. In 2012, Federer had to withdraw from the tournament due to back injury he developed prior to the semifinals.

Roger Federer has a pretty record at the Qatar Open, having won the event thrice in 2005, 2006 and 2011. His first title in Doha came in 2005 as he defeated his current coach, Ivan Ljubičić in the finals is straight sets. He defended his title next year as he defeated Gael Monfils in straight sets to claim his second title in Doha.

His third and last Qatar Open title came in 2011, when he defeated the Russian, Nikolay Davydenko in straight sets in the finals. He would be hoping to lift his fourth title in Doha this week after a span of ten years.
