Max Verstappen has had a great start to the 2021 season, as he finds himself just one point behind the championship leader, Lewis Hamilton. The Dutch driver won the Imola GP two weeks ago, having started from the third spot in the qualifying session.
Lewis Hamilton is chasing his eighth championship title, whereas, Verstappen and Red Bull look to end Hamilton’s dominance this season. Former F1 driver, Ralf Schumacher believes that it will be a close battle between Hamilton and Verstappen this season. Moreover, he claimed that Verstappen could push Hamilton to make more mistakes, like the one he committed at Imola.
“He has to go more to the limit to be able to keep up with Verstappen,” the former F1 driver told Sky Germany. If you go to the limit more, then mistakes happen,” Schumacher added.
Ralf Schumacher speaks highly of Lando Norris
Ralf Schumacher believes that out of the several drivers who can challenge Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen, he reckons that Lando Norris can again claim a podium finish in Portugal this week. The British driver finished P3 at Imola, after an incredible drive. However, Schumacher predicts a difficult track in Portugal which could pose a challenge.
“I see McLaren very far ahead again. Such tracks suit them. They were damn strong in Imola – at least Lando Norris,” said Schumacher.
“Last year we saw that it was a difficult track,” he said. “It is new, but very fast. There are many corners that you cannot see at all. That is why there is room for a lot of mistakes. If a car then of course does not work, it will be steep for the driver,” he continued.
