Relieved by LGPA tour cards extended for the next season: Aditi Ashok

LGPA tour cards extended for the next season, this news has relived Aditi Ashok and many other athletes like her. With the 2020 season hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, only four events were held.

“It’s a great move by the LPGA. It was inevitable with the international nature of the LPGA,” said Aditi who has been at home for almost three months.

“Many players are from different countries so it would have been hard to coordinate with players and their country’s regulations. It’s a huge relief for sure and it’s one less thing that we have to think about while playing”, she added.

Aditi, whose last event was the New South Wales Open in Australia.

Because of this pandemic US event has been cancelled and it’s a big relief for Aditi, as it was announced before she left India otherwise she would have been stuck in the US.

In late July, The LPGA is planning to resume the tour, a month after the men’s PGA Tour is scheduled to restart, and then later move to Europe for the three major back-to-back events. With travel restrictions still in place and a spot on the Tour certain for next year, the Indian ace is yet to plan her schedule.

“Because of the nature of the virus in Europe, we don’t know if the events will happen or not,” said the three-time winner on the LET. “It will be interesting to see how the men’s PGA Tour gets on.”

“I have already started doing practice a lot more on my terrace. I have been hitting balls with pretty much everything from short irons to hybrid and woods, and I have also been doing chipping”, said Aditi, who began hitting the ball into a big curtain hung on the terrace.

“I love to play on the course. But now, I have to conform to the rules, see the crowd, the timings available, see how often I can get out of the house and go play. It’s going to be different, but I am sure every athlete is doing their best to prepare” she added in statement.

From July 23-26, The LPGA is scheduled to restart the Marathon Classic in Sylvania, Ohio. If the travel restrictions are ease and conditions are fine then Aditi may be travel to the US to play and may be to Europe after that. But all these plans are depending on a ongoing crisis.
