Emma Raducanu was set to feature in the ongoing China Open but an injury in her foot she suffered during her quarterfinals against Daria Kasatkina at the Korea Open meant that she withdrew from another tournament this year. Renowned physical trainer Kieron Vorster stated that the reason behind Raducanu’s constant battle with injuries might be her not participating in tournaments.

Raducanu is yet to win her first title since her historic victory at the 2021 US Open. Last year, as the Brit succumbed to multiple injuries, surgeries kept her out of the tennis courts almost the entire year. In 2024, Raducanu decided to skip the French Open to prepare for the grass swing and played good tennis at Wimbledon and the tournaments preceding the grass court Grand Slam.

After Wimbledon, the 21-year-old decided not to feature in the Paris Olympics as she had the US Open in her mind. She played just the Citi Open en route to her first-round US Open exit as not being given the wild cards for the Canadian Open and the Cincinnati Masters made her skip both events. Vorster asserted that Raducanu’s decision to skip events is ruining her chances to take home her second title on the WTA Tour.

She just doesn’t play enough matches. I’ve seen her train, and she trains hard, she works hard, there’s no doubting that. But you can train as hard as you like — if you don’t have that match fitness, your body is not hardened and robust enough to play match after match.

Kieron Vorster advises Emma Raducanu to practice like Andy Murray

Kieron Vorster stated what he would have done if he had been Emma Raducanu‘s coach. He would have taken Raducanu to a place with a high temperature and made her practice just like what Andy Murray used to do.

The first thing I would do is take her somewhere hot with no distractions and do a six-week training block. Take away home comforts and luxuries. Do something different that will kick-start the year. You’ve only got to look at Andy Murray for somebody who made all the sacrifices year after year.

After her heartbreaking US Open exit, an emotional Raducanu admitted that not getting enough match practice might have been the reason behind her disappointing run. It was, however, a collective decision and to correct her mistakes, she signed up for tournaments for the Asian swing, but the injury ruined her plans.
