91-year-old British business mogul and former F1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone hit a rough patch late night on Wednesday as he got arrested in Brazil for carrying an undocumented gun in an airport. Ecclestone, who had been in Brazil for attending a few events and meeting the Brazilian F1 Champion Nelson Piquet, was all set to leave for Switzerland in a private jet. But during a checking in the airport, he was incarcerated after a gun was discovered in his luggage by the local authorities.
Bernie Ecclestone is a man of great repute and his involvement with law violation has sent shockwaves through the entire Formula 1 community. As per the reports, the 91-year-old was boarding his private jet to go to Europe when a gun was found alongwith his belongings.
Bernie Ecclestone admitted to owning an undocumented gun
When the Brazil airport authorities discovered an unlicensed gun in Bernie Ecclestone’s luggage, the billionaire businessman admitted to the fact that he was the owner of the undocumented firearm. But he also said he was not aware that the gun was there with him as he was leaving the country for Switzerland with his wife Fabiana Ecclestone.
The gun was an unlicensed LW Seecamp .32 pistol, which was found in Bernie Ecclestone’s luggage during the mandatory X-ray screening before the billionaire was about to board his private jet.
After the incident, Bernie was put behind bars, and he had to pay the bail so that he could be cleared to travel to Switzerland for attending his events.
