Being LeBron James‘ teammate is not easy. It has its pros and cons when playing with James. Many who have played with James have termed him as competitive, a mentality monster, and whatnot. Recently, former 17-year NBA player Richard Jefferson chimed in on what it’s like being James’ teammate.
Jefferson claimed that one has to be on their toes constantly while playing with James on the court because he is always thinking about a championship every year, no matter who is beside him or against him. Being James’s teammate comes with many responsibilities on your shoulders. James can get the best out of his teammates.
For example, his stint at the Cleveland Cavaliers during the 2010s. He also demonstrated that while at the Miami Heat, he formed the Big 3 in the process.
Playing with LeBron sucks because you’re trying to win a championship. That he’s one of the most competitive human beings in the history of American sports and sports in general… If Bron trusts you to do a job, he’s f***ing with you till the end of the day. If not, he didn’t respect you!”
Richard Jefferson said
Jefferson raises important issues. Outstanding athletes will demand more of their colleagues. Jefferson is now able to proclaim himself an NBA champion as a result of these requirements. Therefore, Jefferson wouldn’t exchange playing alongside LeBron for anything, even though it might have been awful during that time in his career.
LeBron James is one of the best players in the world. But players also have to make a lot of sacrifices to be with him on the court. It is not easy dealing with an engine like Bron, who, as Jefferson states, is in practice before everyone in the morning and also stays up late despite everyone leaving. Something that the legendary late Kobe Bryant used to do during his time.
NBA executive made an interesting Cavs-LeBron James case
When the trade market approaches every season, one thing is for sure: LeBron James is all over it. Even this offseason, the NBA superstar is linked to sides like the Dallas Mavericks, and the Cleveland Cavaliers. Similarly, an NBA executive made an interesting case regarding LeBron James and the Cavaliers recently.
James and the Cavs have an unbreakable bond, mostly because his career started there in the first place. Since then, it just took over, and the NBA superstar never looked back, going on to create an underlying legacy in the sport in general.
I’m not gonna sit here and tell someone to say no to over $50 million, but LeBron is a billionaire, man. He has enough money and makes enough off the court. If I were in his camp, I would have told him to decline his player option with the Lakers and sign with the Cavs. That would have been the smart play.
The NBA executive told Hoops Wire
With the NBA exec stating that James should sign with the Cavs this NBA offseason, it will surely send alarming rings down his opponents in the East and in the West, as the Cavs are already a strong side for the upcoming 2025-26 NBA season. A return to the Cavs would surely be iconic, as the star gets the opportunity to finish it all where it started for him.
NBA reporter claims LeBron James may stay at the Lakers amidst trade rumours
The NBA legend staying in Los Angeles is also not ruled out, as he already opted for his $52.6 million player option ahead of the 2025-26 NBA season. There is also a possibility that James ends his career at the Lakers, per various reports. According to Anthony Irwin of Clutch Points, he may also choose to re-sign with the Lakers and possibly retire in Los Angeles itself.
This is amidst the ongoing trade rumors with teams like the Mavericks, Cavaliers, and the Miami Heat involved to capture the signature of the NBA superstar.

Some sources take that a step further and posited that not only would James play out the upcoming season with the Lakers, but that he would also likely re-sign after the season with the intent to eventually retire in Los Angeles.
Anthony Irwin said
James has been as professional as ever with all the rumours surrounding him. With reporters questioning him several times about his future while enjoying his vacations, James has never made any wrong statements, leading to any controversies, showcasing his professionalism.
James and the Lakers have not had any formal discussions on a potential buyout or trade, according to The Athletic’s reporting on Wednesday. That said, it looks more likely that James will stay at the Lakers this season.
