Everton came to Anfield on Saturday and defeated Liverpool 2-0 to get their first win in 22 years at the home ground of Liverpool. Richarlison scored in the opening minutes and Liverpool couldn’t muster any reply to that as chances came less and rare. Then each of Liverpool’s front three missed chances to put the ball in the net and Everton took advantage of it. They got awarded a contentious penalty and Gylfi Sigurdsson converted it to give Everton their first win over Liverpool at Anfield in 22 years.
Liverpool in their worst form in the Jurgen Klopp era after two years of high flying football
5 losses in the last 7 Premier League matches means that Liverpool have taken just 6 points out of the last 21 possible. This sees them languishing at 6th place in the Premier League table and in the current form they are in could see them not qualify for the Europa League itself. Jurgen Klopp has not been able to get any result from his team despite inspiring speeches and is bemused with the mentality of his team. They look like a husk of themselves and are bereft of confidence and play like they are tormented.
Fans are disappointed, but know that this team is capable of winning games and will eventually start winning again. Next season when Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Diogo Jota, Fabinho, Naby Keita and Jordan Henderson are all fit, Liverpool will be a different team than before. Right now Roberto Firmino has polarized the Liverpool fanbase by liking a post of Everton striker Richarlison. Fans quickly decried his actions and accused him of being tone-deaf of a derby rivalry.
They accused him of not knowing the importance of a derby despite being at Liverpool for more than 5 years. All these accusations were coupled with the brazilian’s terrible performances of late and it was not good for him. However even this issue will blow over when he starts performing good enough again.
