Roger Federer announces he is withdrawing from the Dubai Open, thanks his ‘best’ and ‘loyal’ team

Roger Federer post his exit from the Qatar Open had said that will soon announce if he is going to play in Dubai or not. And true to his word the champion, quite unfortunately, decided to stay away from the Dubai Open.

He has taken this decision after consulting with his team, and the team must have realized he needs more work on in training before he can get back to playing competitively again. But the good thing is that he will now be seen competing in the clay court season, something he wouldn’t have done if he had done well on the hard courts. 

It’s no secret that Federer is most comfortable playing on grass, and is eyeing the grass court season to note up a few trophies before he plays in the all important Wimbledon 2021. Federer also has an eye out for the Tokyo Olympic games which will be played after the Wimbledon.

Federer did ok in his return to International Tennis after a year. He beat Dan Evans the British player, in three sets, 7-6 3-6 7-5, before losing to the Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili, 6-3 1-6 5-7. The untimely exit from the Doha event has meant Federer will not play at the Dubai Open. It must have been a tough call to take for Federer and his team. After all the Dubai Open has been extremely fertile grounds for Federer.

Federer has won the event an unprecedented ‘eight’ times in the past, a record! But tough times call for tough decisions and clearly Federer was not ready for a full week of tennis yet. Fans, well wishers and his team will hope that his next outing is a more successful one.
