“Roger is working very hard and is motivated to fight for big titles next season,” coach Ivan Ljubičić impressed by Federer’s progress
Roger Federer has been out on the sidelines ever since he played an exhibition match against Rafael Nadal in Cape Town, earlier in February. The Swiss suffered a knee injury and underwent a surgery for the same. He called off his season early and is now undergoing a rehabilitation program to make a full recovery come the 2021 season.
Ivan Ljubicic, former World number three and Federer’s coach is impressed by the Swiss’ progress in training and has asserted that he is ready to fight for big titles in the 2021 season. “Roger is working very hard and is motivated to fight for the big titles next season. We are getting new information about the Australian Open. The Australian Government wants the event to unfold under strict rules. Both Roger and I tried to do our best in the past eight months,” said Ljubicic.

Roger Federer played his last match on the professional tour at the Australian 2020. The Swiss maestro lost in the semifinals to Novak Djokovic in straight sets and since then, he has just played one exhibition match in Cape Town. The Australian 2021 is set to commence from February 8 next year, after it was postponed due to scheduling issues. The players will be allowed to arrive between 15-17 January, with 14 days of mandatory quarantine upon their arrival.
Ivan Ljubicic said that Roger Federer wanted to return back to the level he had been before injury and make a good start to the year at the Australian Open 2021. “I have been to Switzerland, and we have trained on the court. Roger is very motivated He is incredible. Many people wonder why he still plays, finding it hard to understand that he still enjoys the game and wants to chase notable wins. He wants to be competitive and get back to the level he had before the injury”, said Ivan Ljubicic.
