Rohan Bopanna missed Davis Cup fixture against Pakistan due to shoulder injury. The 39 years old doubles specialist, ranked 38 in ATP list, is eager to return to circuit after recovering from shoulder injury.
Bopanna will partner with Divij Sharan, who is ranked 46 in doubles chart. With this ranking they are targeting ATP tour 250 event. They won’t get entry in ATP tour 500 and ATP masters because cutoff are really high.
“We need to focus on individual ranking to qualify for Olympics. I am looking forward to Olympic games. Divij and I are trying to play as much as possible, in tournaments wherever we can get in” said Bopanna. Qualification in tennis will be known after the French open in 2020 when official ranking are updated.
All India Tennis Association (AITA) will be deciding the Indian entries in tennis competition at Tokyo. Although controversies over doubles partner had flared up in past. In the upcoming Olympic the key will be having good communication. The federation and players need to get together and find the best scenario.
